Cafe Baghuset Viborg

Café Baghuset in Viborg, which has been voted the city's best café for the past 9 years, must of course also have tested their version of a Stjerneskud. We arrived at 7pm and ordered our food 12 minutes later. It took 17 minutes and then it was on our table. Quite a reasonable time, when you consider that we were not the only ones in the café. First impressions of the service are positive, although something is missing. A shooting star without steamed fish is technically not a shooting star but a star launcher. Apart from that, the dish must of course be judged based on what they write on the menu and here it does not say anything about steamed fish. So fair enough that it is not included. This is the first time I have tried a fish fillet that is a turbot. It tastes absolutely amazing and I don't miss that it is usually a plaice fillet. The turbot is finely breaded and fried in butter as it should be. It is juicy and tastes fantastic. Under the fish fillet there was cold smoked salmon, as well as delicious hand-peeled shrimps that were turned in a tasty dill cream. At the very bottom we find some lovely butter-fried sourdough bread. Even butter-fried on both sides. Fortunately, not something with very cheap toast bread that we so often encounter. That's how the bottom should be made. But trees don't grow completely into the sky, because there are also some ups that need to be mentioned when they now choose to charge a whole 289,- for this bandit. When you write that it comes with roe and sauce cocktail, I would also like to be able to find it on the plate. The garnish they use is not tasty roe, but caviar (made from seaweed), which doesn't taste like anything. Nice garnish but nothing more. Sauce cocktail usually has an orange color, but there was nothing else but the salmon and caviar that had that color. In terms of taste, I couldn't find it either. So either it wasn't there, or there was very little of it. I had to leave a little bit, the 2 cucumber slices. I don't understand why you use old and dry slices. It wasn't delicious. The salad was fresh enough, and in appropriate quantities. I missed the fresh green asparagus, which is usually also included, but fair enough that they have chosen to omit them. When I come to the overall assessment, the food we had and what I chose to eat, is really delicious and can easily pull a 4/5, but there were also some ups that pull down. Now serve what is on your menu and make sure it is fresh. And especially when you choose to keep the price at the high end. I end up with a 3.4/5.

I ordered fish n’ chips, the fish was completely cooked to a shame, it was so dry and chewy, the fish had absolutely no taste at all. The fries were really good though. Ordered a bottled beer, with it I get a glass that is really dirty and has chips in it, I then go up and get a replacement. The cutlery was dirty. The acoustics are not very good, and it is difficult to hear what each other is saying. The staff is actually very nice, but we were not asked if things were as they should be, all in all, a bit of a sad experience etc.

Deliciously prepared food and drinks. Cozy place. Missing a few parts of what was on the menu but overall a lovely experience.

Overall a good experience. The service was excellent. Despite a very busy and full restaurant, we were given full attention and space to accommodate special requests. The food was significantly above standard café food. The visuals were exquisite and the taste was a great experience. You can get real truffles if you like the taste. Price and quality were really good. I would definitely recommend Baghuset

We were a group of nine and ordered a variety of dishes — the food was excellent. Unfortunately, the staff forgot one person’s order, and they didn’t receive their meal until the rest of us had finished eating. There was no apology from the staff, which was disappointing.

What an exciting place, they call themselves a café – but Café Baghuset is a bit more than just that. It feels a bit like someone has looked at the classic, semi-boring café model and thought: “We could do that with a bit more style – and without serving limp French fries in a wicker basket.” The food is actually surprisingly good – as in: it looks like something someone has thought about, and not just thrown out on a plate while they answered text messages from the head chef. It tastes of quality, without being pretentious. You can still find yourself in it, but with a slight feeling that you are maybe just a little bit more refined than at the average street café. And the drinks? They actually try. It is not just “rum and coke with ice because it is on the menu”. It is something akin to love and perhaps the pride of a bartender. Not world-class cocktails – but closer than you would expect from a place that still calls itself a café. The atmosphere is calm and pleasant, the room is neat and inviting, and the whole thing seems a little more complete than the usual café circus. So there is nothing that screams “tourist trap with frozen pizzas and artificial grass on the walls”. All in all? Café Baghuset surprised us positively. It is a café concept that has risen a notch above the crowd, without getting carried away. You could easily come back again – and you would probably bring someone with you, someone you would like to impress a little bit. Baghuset has got something – and it tastes a little better.

Super cozy place to eat, sweet and friendly service and really good food. You can eat both inside and outside. You can easily get in with an electric wheelchair and the service is good. Can definitely be recommended.
