After many years living abroad, it was a bit nerve-wracking to "return home" to Randers in July 2025 - and the fear of not being able to get a meal out that could match the level abroad. Let's be honest - Randers is neither Shanghai nor Singapore, not even in that regard. My wife and I spontaneously threw ourselves into it on an ordinary Monday evening - and were at first just happy to find a place that was open on a Monday! 😳 That it happened to be Det Gamle Apothek and that they actually had room for us, would turn out to be a very positive surprise. It was SO wonderful to experience a meal prepared with passion and detail for expression, taste and presentation. Fresh and certainly carefully selected ingredients, put together by knowledgeable chefs with an understanding of flavors and balance in the palette, textures and not least visual presentation - wonderfully liberating to experience in a provincial town like Randers! And it's great to see that there are actually still people who value quality over price and quantity (even though the portion sizes are quite potent!), because the place was packed, on an ordinary Monday. Innovative? No, but rather a well-prepared and wholehearted concept served with great passion, than a clumsy and failed "trendy" concept that some restaurants think sells itself, without any notable effort. Det Gamle Apothek is solid French-inspired cooking, with a wonderful twist, and based on local/Danish ingredients where possible. And it's tightly executed but served casually. And the service: A chapter in itself! Unfortunately, I never got the name of our waiter, but keep up the positive experience! You'll have to look far for knowledge, charm (and lovely hair 😉 ...you know who you are). Super professional and pleasant personality, never too much, never too little - always right there when we needed him, always attentive to all his guests. Seriously a rare sight to experience a waiter with such passion and detail for his work! And then be so good at it at the same time...we are very impressed! Det Gamle Apothek was a fantastic and spontaneous experience - and we are happy to be able to add a new eatery to our map of places that are worth visiting, and where we know we can get food and service at an exquisite level. Let it be the city's "hidden gem" 😉. See you!

The food was very tasty. Prices were high, but the food was excellent.

We have been to the old pharmacy in Randers quite a few times. Not once have they disappointed. Not in terms of taste, service or price. There is a really nice atmosphere as soon as you enter the room. The room is full of history and you want to dive into that part of it, too. Big and warm recommendation from here. We will be back, soon :)
