Domestic Aarhus

Amazing food and staff. It was a nice summer day, so we ate in their outdoor seating. It is a very cozy outdoor atmosphere, with large ivy walls surrounding it. The food is definitely worth the price, and it blew us away. We went on a Thursday night, so not that crowded, but I would recommend making a reservation.

Simply brilliant. A fantastic and compelling concept, superbly prepared, and served with friendliness and informative service. For what they offer, it was truly an excellent value. (They offer a four-course menu, a ten-course menu, and a fourteen-course menu. We spent three wonderful hours there enjoying the ten-course menu.)

Must visit. Very delicious food and relaxed atmosphere.

An absolutely unique experience! What an experience! Domestic manages to create a very special atmosphere – the restaurant is beautiful, calm and incredibly cozy. But what really makes the difference is the staff. Everyone was committed, passionate and present, and you could tell that they sincerely wanted to give us an experience beyond the ordinary. The food was nothing short of fantastic. Each serving was a small work of art with lots of flavor, balance and surprises. The wine menu was equally impressive and perfectly matched to the dishes. We chose both the Danish menu and the extended menu, and both were a pleasure from the first to the last serving. We left feeling full, excited and deeply impressed. If you are looking for a unique gastronomic experience with warm-hearted service, we can only give Domestic our very best recommendations. We are already looking forward to coming back.

Restaurant Domestic fully lived up to their Michelin star, with a cuisine based only on local Danish ingredients. We had a magnificent gourmet experience with 14 courses plus the loose and impressive Danish drink menu. In addition, excellent service. My wife has a shellfish allergy, so the Domestic chefs conjured up completely unprepared alternative servings, which in some cases were better than the seafood on the menu. Instead of oysters, she got oyster mushrooms, and they were insanely good. It's amazing when all 14 courses are either really successful or downright excellent. Including fallow deer, which I'm not crazy about because it's done too bloody and is therefore tough and doesn't bring out the gamey taste of my childhood. Domestic's fallow deer melted on the tongue and was in tasty symphony with the pointed cabbage. They did serve some spruce for a super delicious rhubarb dessert. I grew up in a forest where I tried almost everything. Spruce is not edible. I was in the experimental corner, so we chose the Danish drink menu. I was a little disappointed, though, when the first wine was from Andersen Winery, which I once visited and bought two bottles of bubbles for 600 kr. It hurt when they were poured down the sink. Andersen has certainly made progress, because Sur Lie 2020 was excellent. It was an eye-opener for Danish wine that Danish winemakers are starting to make excellent white wines, for example. we got Blanc de Blancs 2021 from Klitgaard on Funen and Solaris Barrique 2021 from Guldbæk in Himmerland. We also got beer, gin and fruit wine. Impressively, all the drinks were a good match for the dish. Having said all that, it is the people who make the experience. At Domestic we got fantastic, lovely down-to-earth service, which contributed to us having an absolutely fantastic evening, which lasted 4+ hours with both a magnificent service and gourmet experience. Domestic was not Geranium class, but it is my second best Danish gourmet experience. So it's just a matter of coming to Aarhus, which is a fantastic city for an extended weekend. Aarhus has also been on The New York Times list '52 Places to Go'.

We had the big 14-course meal. And it was really good. We will definitely be back. Small minus points for the terminal asking for a tip.

Great hospitality from the front of house (Evelina), loved the place and the set up. With the sun streaming in it was like dining outdoors. Liked the creativity and sustainability from the food and how the chef makes full use of the ingredients, 100% danish. Great experience!
