It is insanely expensive for the quantity and quality of food. You sit too far between the tables. When you arrive (and have booked a table in advance) you have to stand outside in the cold and wait. Waiter did not come and take order until we asked an available waiter for it and there was no smile or friendliness. Payment was demanded immediately but was done with the waiter's smartphone with a smashed screen which barely worked.
The food was already cold when served. Table setting consisted of a tacky mug with knives and forks and cheap brown paper napkins. One plate of food for DKK 190 in no way lived up to expectations or the price.
No waiter came and asked for us during the meal, so we could not order more drinks, nor were we offered to order coffee and dessert.
"Gæstgivergården" well, we were not treated as guests and there was certainly no tipping at the doors.
A nasty experience. Hope the management can use our feedback to tighten up.
Aarhus is the second largest city in Denmark and a large university city. In 2017, it was declared the European capital of culture and gastronomy; just 200 km from Copenhagen, 3 hours by train or car with great scenery crossing a large suspension bridge.
An experience is to go visit Den Gamle By, which is a great family attraction. It is a large museum with large outdoor space that makes you feel the living history of the Vikings in different times.
My main comment is that here there is a restaurant with typical Danish food that is worth trying, it has an outdoor garden with white wooden chairs and tables and service personnel in period clothing.
The Danish culinary tradition includes its typical slices of fruity black bread, with a variety of typical toppings, ground meat, onion and oatmeal balls, and breaded and fried pork.
It is worth tasting its gastronomy as a different and unique experience.
A really cozy place with good food at a reasonable price.
The staff were friendly and welcoming and although it was very busy, no one seemed stressed. We felt very welcome and will definitely come again
