Cafe Olai Helsingør

Restaurangen var jättemysigt pyntat nu till jul. Jättegod mat som var fint upplagt. Har väldigt mycket gott att välja på. Väldigt trevlig personal kommer definitivt att besöka igen.

So cozy and delicious once again. Very nice staff who serve their treats with something good in the glass.

Generous portions, friendly staff and cozy! The plaice with béarnaise, fries, asparagus, prawns and caviar is opulence and luxury - absolutely wonderful!

Delicious and fresh salad, where luckily we got dressing on the side... However, I don't understand why we got bread cottons (they belong to the Caesar salad)... The kitchen forgot red onion, which I had to ask for myself. The old premises are still full of atmosphere....we got the booth by the window.

I had steamed salmon on a delicious base of spinach, and with a super delicious salad as well as french fries and béarnaise. Lovely food and friendly staff.

Is you are scouting for the best location in Helsingør for open Danish sandwiches (smørrebrød), you would have come to the right place in visiting Café Olai. The selection of smørrebrød is just as it should be and the restaurant is very ‘hyggelig’ - however I think it would be of value to have a rethink around the set up when it comes to serving and ordering. Café Olai have tried to copy the British pub tradition, being ordering drinks and food at the bar. Unfortunately, this model does not work for the guest at Café Olai, ie. as this is a popular place this also means a very long line for ordering and re-ordering (2nd round of drinks). A friendly suggestion to smoothen out he process would be to have additional staff at the bar. You sort of loose out on the experience having to que up for re-ordering one beer and one mineral water for more than 10 minutes…. Should you want to go all in, we would strongly recommend the Old-fashioned apple cake (Gl. Daws Æblekage) – even better if the chef replaced ordinary sugar with caster sugar… Further, please let the staff know that it does make a difference whether you pay DKK or your local currency when settling the bill. We’ll be back…
