It was fun to sleep in the prison, but one night is enough. The breakfast bags were good. The kitchen was not on the clean end, and the restroom and bathroom clean but chilly.
The restaurant has a good lunch.

The prison in Horsens is a fascinating experience and a unique way of experiencing history, where you can really feel what it must have been like to live behind bars. The prison, which was previously an active prison from 1853 to 2006, is now a museum and cultural center that offers an insight into Denmark's prison history and the daily life of the inmates. With a thorough renovation of the old buildings, the raw, authentic atmosphere has been preserved, which gives a strong sense of the place's harsh history.
Guided tours through the old cells and common areas are filled with fascinating details about the stories of former prisoners, famous escape attempts and the work of the guards. The interaction with the digital exhibition material in particular is a big plus, giving you the opportunity to delve into the stories that interest you the most.
For families with children, the exhibitions may seem a bit heavy, but there are also activities and events that cater to a younger audience. The interactive elements and the opportunity to play catch for a day make it fun and educational for the younger guests. The on-site café serves simple but tasty dishes that can be enjoyed in the old prison surroundings.
However, a small drawback is that some parts of the museum can seem repetitive, and it could be interesting to include several different types of exhibitions or temporary exhibitions to attract repeat visits.
All in all, the Prison in Horsens is a highly recommended experience for those interested in history and culture. The place manages to balance between the educational and entertaining, and I can highly recommend a visit. A solid 4 out of 5 stars!

Visited the Prison on Monday with a family member. The prison shows a mixture of history from the prison's establishment in the 19th century, to the prison's closure in 2006. We went through the prison without a tour guide, but would still recommend that people get a guided tour, as it only costs 35 kroner extra per person.

Interesting insight into the inmates' everyday life in Horsens State Prison. Good "stories" conveyed in corridors and in cells. It is recommended to take a guided tour and then go into detail on your own.

We were in Odder last week and have to say that the prison museum was our "highlight" of the vacation.
The price is okay, most of it is translated into German and for the children (who don't pay admission) there is a free puzzle book with various tasks.
It's really powerful to do something for children and then not even want any money for it.
Very, very well done.
