20/10/2025: Argh… unfortunately, it was a bit of a heavy experience at the otherwise really nice and newly renovated Bistro Royal. A place I have always liked to come to when I knew that things were going to work out – and I could count on what I was getting for my money.
The waiters were running around a bit confused. Our waiter was otherwise super sweet and cheerful, but you could tell that there wasn’t really time for the personal service that the place is usually so good at. The drinks came at the same time as the food – it’s not the biggest problem in the world, but it gave the feeling that everything had to go quickly. I understand that you want to have more tables in an evening, but when the food is on the table after 13 minutes, you lose a bit of the experience – and maybe also a bit of additional sales.
I got “boeuf”, but the meat was unfortunately completely overcooked. And that’s a bit of a shame, because it’s a mistake that could have been fixed immediately in the kitchen. Everything – meat, fries and salad – was mixed together on the plate, and it gave a slightly messy look. In the past, you would get sides on the side, and the meat was like the main role. Now it disappears a bit in the crowd.
We shared a garlic bread for the main course, but unfortunately it was completely tasteless and did not have the slightest hint of garlic. A shame, because their old signature garlic bread – both here and at Bistro Petit Royal – was always a hit. They should really consider putting that back on the menu.
All in all, I can see that they still have to find their rhythm after reopening with a new team, and that is completely fair. But there are some basic things that need to be tightened up. I will definitely come back, because I still believe in the place – and I hope that Bistro Royal will soon be back as I know it.
