With my visit to the Tivoli gardens in Copenaghen, I will be there in this typical Danish kitchen restaurant located inside the garden in one of the various tables inside and this will not sound like a surprise. We ordered the hamburger and the salmon; both dishes were exquisite, generous in portion, and delicious. The staff were welcoming, smiling, knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful, and the service was attentive and fast—although prices were high, as is always the case in Denmark. Das Personal war freundlich, kompetent, zuvorkommend und stets mit einem Lächeln bei der Sache; der Service war aufmerksam und schnell, die Price – wie in Dänemark üblich – hoch.

September 2026 we were 4 people visiting. We ate the luxury platter and shrimp salad and beef filet. Everyone was incredibly happy with the food and our waiter. I have to praise the beef filet for them, it's been years since I had a steak so tender and juicy 🤩 Sept. 2023 It was really hot when we visited and chose to sit outside, where we unfortunately couldn't order sandwiches, which we had come for. We had fish, tartar, skipper labskovs and chicken salad, which was quite excellent, filling and tasty 😃

Visited Grøften during my Denmark trip and had a wonderful dining experience. The seafood was fresh and delicious, the service was excellent, and the historic Tivoli atmosphere made it a memorable evening. A perfect place to enjoy authentic Danish food in Copenhagen.

I don't recommend it. We were fooled by AI. My wife and I made three reservations on the evening of September 26, 2026. It's inside Tivoli Park, and we also paid for park entrance. The restaurant was empty, but they gave us a small, bad table. Thankfully, we encountered a very polite and helpful waiter who moved us to a better table. This place is not local; it's touristy. The food is bad and expensive...

A Wonderful Setting and Exceptional Service, but the Food Has Lost Its Former Standard Grøften at Tivoli holds a very special place in my memories of Denmark. I first fell in love with smørrebrød on my first visit to Denmark 29 years ago, and over the years, Grøften became one of those places I genuinely looked forward to returning to. I have recommended it to countless friends traveling to Denmark, specifically encouraging them to make the visit because I believed it represented something special about traditional Danish dining. There is still so much to love about Grøften. The location inside Tivoli is fantastic, and the restaurant itself is beautifully maintained and clearly cared for. There is a wonderful atmosphere that feels quintessentially Danish, and the setting alone makes dining here an experience. The staff also deserve very high marks. Our service was friendly, outgoing, welcoming, and genuinely enjoyable. Everyone we encountered seemed to take pride in making guests feel comfortable and appreciated. That level of hospitality makes a difference, and it is something Grøften continues to do exceptionally well. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the food. Let me be very clear: was it bad food? Absolutely not. Nothing we were served was poor or unacceptable. But when you have visited a restaurant for years, have recommended it to friends, and have built an expectation around the quality of its food, the difference between good and great becomes important. And today, I felt that Grøften had slipped from the elevated standard I remember. The food simply did not have the same level of execution, refinement, or attention to detail that made Grøften so memorable to me in the past. Smørrebrød is something I have a genuine appreciation for, and perhaps that makes me especially critical. Denmark does this food extraordinarily well, and Grøften has historically been one of the places I felt confident telling people, “You have to eat here.” This time, I left wishing I could say that with the same enthusiasm. That is what makes this review difficult. The restaurant itself is wonderful. The staff are fantastic. The atmosphere is excellent. The location is hard to beat. But the food needs to catch back up to everything else. I am writing this not because I want to criticize Grøften, but because I genuinely want to see it return to the level I remember and know it is capable of achieving. There is too much history, character, and potential here for the food to feel merely good. Take the time. Put the effort back into the kitchen. Revisit the ingredients, preparation, presentation, and execution that once made the food stand out. Restore that elevated standard. I would absolutely return to Grøften, and I sincerely hope that on my next visit I once again experience the food that made me recommend this restaurant so enthusiastically for so many years. High marks for the location, atmosphere, care of the restaurant, and especially the wonderful service. But for me, the food needs to be brought back to the exceptional standard that Grøften deserves.
