This is a wonderful venue to listen to jazz music. I bought tickets for the late night jass event that starts at 11pm for the jazz festival. When I came in exactly at the starting time, all the seats were already taken and even all the standing tables were taken. So come early if you want a good spot!
I ordered some drinks at the bar and stood for an hour or two before a table opened up and I snagged it. The music is great and people are constantly coming up to play from the crowd. Overall a fun experience!
I was there for the free jam session on a Wednesday. Great atmosphere and musicians 🫰🏼
Went during a jam session so the event was free. It was amazing hearing different people come together to make music.

Review of Monmatra
Introduction: I’m a coffee professional working with coffee and accessibility, living with a physical disability. I played jazz in high school and loved visiting jazz venues. I saw that Victoria Søndergaard played at this venue and since I really like vibraphone I couldn’t resist.
Order: One black Russian and a piece of Avangard jazz music
Flavor experience 3/5 – The drink was fine a bit too much vodka. Flavor, herbal and earthy, could have used a bit more coffee flavor. The music was really good, very groovy, dissonant and energetic. Really made my mind wander almost creating synesthesia with the drink.
Service 5/5 – Very friendly and hospitable. They greeted us in the entrance and really went out of their way to assist me and accommodate my wheelchair and assistant. Double thumbs up for the wonderful volunteers, these guys aren’t even getting paid, and they are still providing better service than most people on the clock
Mood 5/5 – The place is very cozy and classy, just what I want from a jazz club. Since the music was live, I put it under the flavor experience
Accessibility 4/5 – The seating was comfortable, the acoustics were pretty bad, I had some trouble hearing the person sitting across from me, who I was talking to. The acoustics when the music was playing were good. The lighting was good enough for me to see the people next to me, but not enough to navigate without knocking over everybody’s drinks. The only point against accessibility is wheelchair access. I would say that it is accessible for pretty much all other disabilities thanks to the service and if you have a manual chair and walking capacity. It would be durable, but getting a wheelchair up the steps through the narrow door and in the tight furnished room would prove challenging. I did not check the restroom.
Additional accessibility notes: regardless of the challenging architecture, the service and willingness of the staff proves that accessibility is so much more than just ramps and that not having a wheelchair accessible venue is no good reason to be inaccessible.
Miscellaneous notes: I did have to call the ticket company to accommodate an assistant on a free ticket with a valid companion card. I initially wrote an email like I usually do getting an unhelpful reply with a lack of understanding, but the problem was solved when I called. This I no fault of the venue since they are using an external ticket supplier. Pro tip, don’t waste your time emailing, just call the ticket supplier by phone and have your companion card and registration number ready.
Recommended for: Anybody who likes jazz and does not have an electric wheelchair.
Conclusion: Excellent service, great music, good vibes and okay drinks there would definitely intoxicate you.

My review is of the past experience. I lived nearby for 5 years in 1960/70. Listened to and met great jazz artists including Dexter Gordon, Ben Webster, Stan Getz etc. Went three or more times a week. Amazing experience and very nostalgic. An important part of my musical life, although not as a player

Wonderful venue with excellent acoustics. Can't fault the performance or the atmosphere. Having said that, it was really annoying that despite having booked our tickets 2 months in advance, there was nowhere to sit. It seems the venue sold more tickets than it could sit people. We had to stand by the bar, unable to fully see the band (pillars got in the way). I have a previous back injury so it made for an uncomfortable experience. We ended up having to leave. Disappointing.

Legendary jazz club, run by 40 volunteers, in the Gothersgade party area. The place is small with low ceilings, tables and chairs naturally take up a lot of space in the small room. Good selection at the bar at regular prices, although the service could be a little faster at paying. The sound and atmosphere are always top-notch - the style and type of music can be alternative. Possibility of simple dining before the concert, at reasonable prices.
