Fantastic food and lovely service from our waiter Mads

Lovely food, but very inflexible in that you cannot replace food due to allergies etc.

I was at Restaurant Köd in Aarhus for my 30th birthday. I had chosen Köd as the place I wanted to go to when I felt like a good pepper steak. We all ordered their signature menu, where we got 3 courses. The starter for me was a beef tartare, which is one of the best I've ever had, and I've still tasted quite a bit. There was a good amount of lemon on it, which was just right every now and then, which made a good contrast against the fatty meat and mayo, at the same time the rice paper was a little genius, as it was sprinkled with some special beef something, which added the right amount of salt. My parents got lobster tortellini, which they said was really delicious, which they were surprised by, since they weren't necessarily sure they liked it. For the main course we got 3x beef tenderloin of 200g with french fries, semi-dried tomatoes and a signature sauce and pepper sauce. The fries were really good, the tomatoes were really good and added a bit of acidity to the dish, while the signature sauce wasn't quite a hit as it was too sweet. The pepper sauce on the other hand was really good. It was a nice strong pepper, but without it being too much. The dessert was creme brulee, which wasn't anything special. Neither of us are dessert people, and creme brulee is not one of my favorite desserts, but it was excellent. The sugar was well burnt off and the creme brulee's consistency was nice, it's just not a very good dessert in general for me, but that shouldn't take anything away from the overall experience at Köd. We also thought the service was really good. All the waitresses we had were super sweet and chatty.

Great food, atmosphere and service. I was a little disappointed that the meat came without any accompaniments - fries, vegetables, sauce etc. had to be purchased separately.

Good experience and good steaks. We had Ida as a waiter who found us the right wine after a few tastings.

The restaurant is called KöD and within that category there is not much, if anything, to put a finger on. I had one of the best steaks I have had in a long time in their 300 gram Uruguay ribeye. Lovely grilled taste, super tender, perfectly cooked. Not much to complain about there. The fries and sauces in the form of bearnaise and their signature sauce were also good. Does what it takes. But apparently you don't have to move far from the core of the restaurant before it starts to lag a bit... The crème brûlée was nice but not flashy. I think the consistency could be better and it lacked the taste of vanilla. In the coffee world, things went completely wrong, however. Espresso Martini is my go-to cocktail and I have tasted numerous ones all over the country. This was one of the worst I have had. They claim that it is made with Grey Goose vodka and Kahlua and espresso. So a top vodka, a classic coffee liqueur and espresso. Unfortunately, it tasted more like a Nohrlund premix Espresso Martini or something like that. Or at least some ready-made espresso. If it was truly made with fresh espresso and the above-mentioned ingredients, then there is definitely something wrong. My friend ordered a filter coffee, which they also talked up a lot with several lines in the menu about its quality. But it was a bad deal. Places like Coffee Collective have proven that you can make filter coffee that is right up there. Almost like a good pour over. That was certainly not the case here. So all in all, a visit where what they should excel at hit the mark, but where there was room for improvement in other places… the service was also good though. But it's a shame that I feel the overall experience was weakened. I have been to KöD a few times over the years, but I'm not keen on coming back at this point. Unfortunately.

The meal with monster tagliatelle in lobster fond was excellent, the tenderloin steak cooked to perfection. The corn and tomatoes were good. The Béarnaise sauce was very good. The Danish chicken was flattened, fried, and dry – "lousy chicken nuggets" – even Lidl's fast food is better. I've been here twice. The first and last time.
