Mêlée Frederiksberg

Third visit to Mêlée and third flawless evening. Super cozy atmosphere (we sat outside this time), as always really good French food and a wine list full of wines from good winemakers at reasonable prices (considering it's in the middle of Frederiksberg).

Mêlée is one of those restaurants that you just know you want to return to before you've even left the table. Tucked away in a small side street off Gammel Kongevej in Frederiksberg, this French bistro does exactly what it says it will do — and then some. The food was, in short, excellent. The ingredients spoke for themselves — simple, seasonal, and prepared with respect and craftsmanship. It's the kind of food that reminds you that good bistro food doesn't have to be complicated; it just has to be done right. And they do. The wine list by the glass deserves special praise. The selection was thoughtful and interesting — not just the usual go-tos, but wines with personality and edge that matched the food perfectly. It's clear that there are people behind the counter who really know what they're doing. The service was warm, attentive, and effortlessly professional. The staff managed to be present without being intrusive — and that kind of balance is harder to strike than you might think. You felt welcome from start to finish. The atmosphere was intimate and informal in the best way. Mêlée is the closest you can get to a real Parisian bistro without leaving Copenhagen — and that's no small feat. Highly recommended.
