Fantastic museum, and not least a good shop. Lovely restaurant, and friendly staff. But most importantly, a whole section for the little ones to play.

World class museum. Multisensory experience for both kids and adults, censequently planned in all the details. Incredible, spacious and fun playground; the shop showcases interesting pieces of modern art and design (but toys too). The cafe serves two kinds of kids meal, both served in a little ship container, with a chocolate sardine and a wooden toy ship. The interactive exhibition could be even bigger, but it is big enough to keep the family busy for 2-3 hours, while the photo-based temporary exhibitions will rather not draw kids attention, even though equally interesting. Last but not least, the whole space is large, but not overwhelming and offers several cozy retreat areas, which is a valuable feature for sensitive and neurodivergent individuals. The architecture and design of this former dock are amazing, too!

Beautiful museum. A little bit too much information. At the end of the museum a fun place for kids to play and learn.

Best place in the world for kids to play. Has a huge playground built like a ship and also lots of opportunities for creative activities and dressing up. Has some pretty amazing exhibits that you have to see. The exhibits are always very immersive with light, sound and pictures.

A very enjoyable museum, especially if you have even a slight interest in ships, the sea, or Norwegian history. The exhibitions cover everything from traditional wooden boats and shipbuilding to marine archaeology and life along the Norwegian coast. There are real boats and artefacts throughout the museum, including a Viking ship replica made with 70-80% original parts.
The museum is not enormous, so you can comfortably see everything in a couple of hours. The waterfront location also adds to the experience, with great views over the fjord.
It is informative, well maintained, and definitely worth a visit if you’re in Oslo.

An incredible museum! In its category, it's the best I've ever been to. It's brilliantly designed to keep everyone entertained. Excellent, engaging descriptions, multimedia sections, historical tidbits, children's accessories, a wonderful playground and creative zone. A well-stocked gift shop. We spent three hours with our children, ages 6 and 8, and we regret that our visit was so short!

Nice museum also with small children (3 years old). The cafe was ok, but a bit expensive.

The best "classic" museum I've ever visited, and I've visited quite a few. The exhibition consists of only a few exhibits. But each one is significant. Each has a short, concise description. Each tells a specific detail, and from these, a broad history (of life at sea and Denmark) unfolds. A fantastic narrative divided into "chapters" – the beginnings of maritime history, life at sea, colonialism (without self-flagellation), the age of steam, war – on both sides of the opposing camps, the time of prosperity, the era of container ships, and much more. I wanted to see and read everything – but there wasn't enough time and I had children with me. Although, there were attractions for children. And a mermaid skeleton! :D Wonderful!
