We’ve visited Copenhagen many times and, like most travelers, we know that Nyhavn is typically more about the view than the food. We’ve eaten at several spots along the canal before, and while the scenery never disappoints, the meals often do—usually quite plain, catering to tourists. So we were honestly surprised—pleasantly so—by our experience at Nyhavn 37. The food here was not only delicious, but thoughtfully prepared and full of character. It was so good, in fact, that we came back the same day for dinner after having lunch there!
At lunch, we ordered two pizzas—one with mushrooms, and another with a mix of pepperoni and margherita. Both were crisp, flavorful, and surprisingly well done. We also shared a plate of Danish open-faced sandwiches (smørrebrød) with traditional toppings like herring, smoked salmon, egg and shrimp, and fried fish with remoulade. While the fish toppings were more on the mild side, the ingredients were fresh and well presented.
Dinner, though, was the highlight. The mussels in white wine cream sauce were light and beautifully balanced, the calamari was perfectly crisp and tender, and the lobster was juicy and satisfying. Our toddler, Kaiden, happily devoured the pasta bolognese, and we all ended on a high note with a wonderfully smooth, caramelized crème brûlée—easily one of the best we’ve had on this trip.
Compliments to Chef Rashan, who clearly puts care and creativity into each dish. His flavors had more depth and refinement than what we’re used to seeing in Nyhavn, where meals often feel rushed or basic.
The service is what truly elevated the entire experience. Michael, the manager, was welcoming and attentive, making sure we had a cozy outdoor table and even bringing us blankets as the evening chilled. Andreas, Jasmine, and Tanvir were warm, upbeat, and genuinely seemed to enjoy what they do. They checked in often, made great suggestions, and created a relaxed, friendly atmosphere that made us want to linger.
We’re so happy to have found a spot in the heart of Nyhavn that feels like ours. It’s heartwarming to know we now have a place we’ll return to again and again—where they know us, and where the food and service make every visit special.
