If I had stumbled across Osteria 16 by chance, maybe I would have succumbed. Knowing the furor propped up by a strong social media presence and a well-publicized cookbook, high expectations were to be met.
On a Tuesday night, a last-minute whim brought me to this bustling perennial—a minor schlep from any central tourist hotspot. I had to giddy up to find good seating. Located in the heart of Vesterbro, another block or two and it would feel as if I had crossed into some sort of urban hinterland.
Two other iterations are to be encountered, but I chose the archetype, not allowing myself to peruse the eight-course menu that paints a broad brush of recognizable Italian heavy hitters and changes daily. Instead, I let nature take its course. Dishes arrived in quick succession, many prepared in advance and served straight from the fridge or shelf. Giving a sense of immediacy — all coming from an open kitchen that looked like the engine room of the Titanic thats about to blow.
In the middle of the proceedings, the octopus arrived. Knowing that these cephalopods lead a sentient existence on par with any house cat, I had taken it upon myself to level the playing field and not partake. Yet, now at my table and two Negronis in, I conceded to the tasty critters.
Of all the dishes that arrived, I only counted one that had come off the stove, and my sources tell me that the bread is supplied by Andersen & Maillard. When the final course came, I was dismayed to find it wasn’t dessert—which had to be ordered separately—and the only option was tiramisu. All good things come to an end, one way or another.

Excellent!
It's a set menu, 7 small plates to share (not counting the bread and as some olives, cheese and salami to nibble on). Very high quality.
When we were there there the dishes came in three groups with an appropriate gap between so it didn't feel rushed.
We had octopus (magnificent) and halibut (good enough for Jehovah) which would normally have been the best parts of any meal, but the bacala mouse and tuna carpaccio were a cut above even them.
Very friendly staff, who made us feel immediately welcome and fortunately were very fluent in English as we can't speak any Danish.
Highly recommended, will visit again if/when we're back in Copenhagen.
I would advise booking in advance, we managed to book on the day, but it was full most of the time we were there, so I think we got the last table.

Excellent place, I highly recommend it! The service between courses was a bit slow. The staff was very pleasant.
We sat in front of the kitchen which was apparently also the toilet queue. People were standing around us and you could see straight into the toilet. The food was ok but definitely not flashy. The waiters had no idea who was serving and kept asking the same thing over and over again.

Fantastic, a perfect 10/10. A taste of Italy in Copenhagen. The food, service, atmosphere – everything was incredibly good. I've been following O16 on social media for a while now, and while everything looks pretty good online, it's even better in real life. This definitely wasn't my last time!!
