**World-class authentic classic Danish open sandwiches** Slotskælderen at Gitte Kik is simply the best place in Copenhagen if you want to experience traditional Danish open sandwiches at their absolute highest level. An institution since 1910 – and you can see why. The service was top notch – attentive, warm and professional from the first second. The kind of service that is rare and makes the whole experience unforgettable. The open sandwiches are craftsmanship in the best sense of the word. The herring with its sour counterpoint, the paper-thin roast beef with soft onions and horseradish, the butter-fried plaice fillet – all served on solid homemade rye bread. Every single slice is prepared with pride and respect for the old recipes. And then the place itself is something in itself – historic vaulted cellar rooms from 1797, a stone's throw from Christiansborg, where there is the sum of genuine Copenhagen coziness and atmosphere. Book a table well in advance – there's good reason for that. Highly recommended! 🇩🇰

This is a charming little lunch restaurant! It was my first stop after arriving in Copenhagen and a wonderful first impression. With friendly staff and a warm ambience, it is pleasant to sit and look at all the framed photographs of years gone by whilst tucking into a Smørrebrød. I went for a smoked herring open sandwich followed by white asparagus in a hollandaise sauce. It was excellent!

“The castle cellar” is a historic restaurant in Copenhagen and among the oldest establishments. Located next to the parliament you might run in to politicians here while enjoying delicious lunch. My favourite is the “tartar” raw beef open sandwich, but all their food is excellent. The staff are real waiters, no part time students here. And you pay a premium price for that as well. The place is always packed with locals and if you want authentic danish cuisine and ambience this is the place. It’s a chill and lively vibe and guest dine close in the narrow basement. There is a feeling of lively happiness in this place and you leave with a smile. It’s reasonably priced for Copenhagen.

Really delicious food and great service, but unfortunately completely overpriced.

Absolutely classic, traditional open sandwiches, of fine quality. Nothing overly exciting or surprising, but nothing that was sad or tasted bad either. Normally it would be 4 stars, but the price is simply too high for what you get, even though the quality of the food was absolutely fine.

I would love to keep this place secret! An awesome array of plates from which to choose. Of, point and request with abandon. Everything will be delicious. An historic restaurant staffed by exceptional waitstaff.

Great food and professional service. Prices are high about 50$ USD per person (compulsory to buy two open faced sandwiches per person) so be aware of that before sitting down. Old timey environment, definitely worth a visit if your wallet can stand it.

Lovely restaurant with lots of atmosphere and great food. And a good place to have visited when you know Dan Turell and 'Stauning til minde' 🙂
