What delicious baked goods! Wow, I enjoyed my visit with you. Very delicious and flavorful. I just impulsively bought an oatmeal ball, hoping they were as good as the ones they have in Sweden. But they can pack a punch, these are world class!! I had to buy a small stock to take home. They taste so good that the birds sing. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for a good experience with you. Luckily my daughter lives in town, so she can buy for me when she goes home to me♥️

The Sourdough Baker, Aalborg – a declaration of love with reservations If you want to do business in Aalborg, and if you are in the café, bakery and restaurant world, you have to sharpen your pencil. The range is large, the competition is fierce, and the quality is generally high. Aalborg is not impressed by mediocrity. The Sourdough Baker, beautifully located right behind the church in perhaps the city's best location, has undoubtedly understood its craft. Here, sourdough bread has been elevated to a league where only the very best can be included. The cakes, croissants and the many varieties of sourdough bread all deserve five stars – six, if that were possible. It is baked goods with soul, depth and respect for tradition. That is precisely why I am surprised that the café experience has not been carried out with as much love. It almost feels like two worlds that do not quite speak to each other. The place appears cold and impersonal – more canteen than café – and lacks the warmth, aesthetics and intimacy that you expect when the craftsmanship behind the counter is absolutely top-notch. It’s a shame, because the potential is clear. I really wanted to take pictures of the bakers with their hands in the dough – the real craftsmanship that you can sense through the glass panels facing the square. Those pictures would have dressed this review. But the young staff seemed more preoccupied with their own phones at the time than with conveying the pride in the work that was going on behind them. There were certainly no customers in line, but that’s where the opportunity for presence arises. The ordering system at the counter works well and gives you peace of mind to choose from the many temptations. But when the coffee and bread are ready, you are called up with a shout across the room. Here the thought crossed my mind: Wouldn’t it dress the place better to let the service come to the table – with the same peace and respect that the dough clearly gets? So, thank you for the excellent bread and good coffee. The taste is second to none. The service and overall experience just have room to rise to the same level as the baked goods that have already won my heart.
