Toldbod Bodega København

We went looking for a Danish resto and found it! Charming, vintage looking spot. Has English Menu too. Had the WienerSchnitzel and a large beer!

Delicious smørrebrød, good service and the atmosphere was top notch. Special draft beers and schnapps. We were very satisfied with this visit which can clearly be recommended. The bodega is perhaps Denmark's oldest from 1787. A little about the place: Your Friend Jl. P. Lurnbge, Art, music and food Many old houses in Copenhagen have an exciting story to tell, if only the walls could talk. This applies not least to the property Esplanaden 4, which for a few hundred years has been the setting for great art, music and food. It is true that there has only been a tavern on the ground floor since 1906, but several owners of the property over the years have been brandy distillers and beer brewers, so there has undoubtedly also been some pouring and enjoying in the house over the years. One of these brandy distillers was called Ho-eberg, and his father-in-law, who also lived in the estate for a number of years, was the very popular composer and Tivoli conductor Hans Christian Lumbye. Lum-bye moved into the property in 1858, where he had long established his name as the "Strauss of the North", and several years before had composed his big hit, "Champagnegalop". But several of his popular melodies were created in the apartment on the first floor. Lumbye's musical son-in-law, distillery owner Peter Hoeberg, wrote down some of the themes that Lumbye often played on the piano in the evening, but often forgot the next morning, perhaps because of the good brandy. But Høeberg thus saved several compositions for posterity, among others "Amelie-Valsen". In the bodega's ceiling, you can still see traces of the spiral staircase that went from Høeberg's brandy distillery up to Lumbye's apartment on the first floor. A very large number of painters also lived in the property for a long period. From around 1832, Christian Kobke lived with his painter friend Frederik Sødring in the house on Toldbodvejen, as it was then called. They had their shared studio on the third floor, and it was here that in 1832 Købke painted the well-known portrait of Sødring. In 1930, the tavern on the ground floor was given its current name "Toldbod Bodega", and the beautiful and distinctive facade with the vine core dates from that period. Over the years, the bodega has changed its character, so that today, more than ever, it is also a popular eating place with the famous Danish, highly coated smørrebrød and authentic Danish cuisine on the menu. As is well known, it was at Toldboden that a sailor disembarked. There are not so many sailors anymore, but instead lots of business people, lawyers, journalists and other good people who appreciate good Danish food and drink in pleasant surroundings. I was out with one of my colleagues and we decided to go get some good coffee. Unfortunately most of the restaurants in the area were either too expensive or just closed. We walked by this restaurant and we took a glimpse of what it looked like on the inside. Since we were very tired of walking and the weather outside wasn't the most pleasant, we decided to just go in. At first we hesitated because by the looks of it we thought it would be another one of those very expensive restaurants. We were greeted by a lady that also walked us to our table. She was also trying to speak her best English so we could understand each other. We had trouble with reading the menu and we asked for one in English so please keep this in mind if you are a tourist that is planning on going to this restaurant. We ordered tea, Irish coffee and an apple pie. I was completely impressed when I saw how good the apple pie looked and my colleague said it was the best she had ever eaten. I honestly regret not getting one for myself too. I got the Irish coffee and at first glance it looked like a frappé. It was the first Irish coffee that I drank that was this intense. I legally enjoyed it and this time my colleague regretted not getting this kind of coffee too. Moral of the story: the food and drinks are so good that if you think about getting these, you should just do it. It's worth it. The lady that served us was very friendly and understanding. She tried her best to make sure we understand her. For example she had a bit of trouble trying to explain the kinds of tea that they have so she brought my colleague the whole box of tea so she can pick which one she likes. I thought it was sweet of her to do so and I really appreciate that she tried her best to explain things. We had a bit of trouble with the payment because she added one more thing to the check that we didn't order. It was a bit hard to fix the situation, but we got our money back and only paid for what we ordered. The atmosphere was so cozy and we kept staring at everything around us because to us it looked like some kind of museum. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant for any tourists that want something good to eat or drink and that is not overpriced.

Good food and good service and real prices. We would love to come again.

Pure Nostalgia, really an old and cozy place.

Definitely one of Copenhagen's best places to eat! Fantastic old-fashioned Danish food, even then with animal welfare at the fore! Can only recommend this place strongly

The true Danish experience!! Fantastic ambiance. VERY low key but 100% genuine and 100% HYGGE. I had the Wiener Schnitzel and some beers, great meal but also the other courses are amazing. Great beer, wonderful staff and we enjoyed every minute. Closed on Mondays. Mid range prices. The heart of Copenhagen

Locale molto accogliente e caratteristico, anche se un po’ troppo rumoroso. Io ho preso il pesce fritto con gamberetti e maionese su una fetta di pane di segale tipico danese. Mio figlio arrosto di maiale con cavolo rosso, cetrioli, burro e il solito pane di segale. Entrambi i piatti ottimi. Porzioni abbondanti. 2 calici di vino e una bottiglietta d’acqua. Il tutto per 66€, quindi conto onesto per Copenaghen. Unica pecca: il menù è solo in danese

For Christmas lunch it was pretty good - all the food was good throughout, and the service too :-)

237 years old and still a piece of indispensable Copenhagen history in full force!
