After hearing a lot about Zeynos Shawarma and seeing the long lines, we decided to try the place for the first time.
When we arrived, the line was fortunately not that long, but the store was full of people, and customers kept coming in. The wait ended up being about 20 minutes, which is acceptable considering how busy it was.
We ordered two homemade pitas with shawarma and one durum with shawarma. The first impression was that the portions are very large. There is really a lot of filling for the money. The pitas were filled with shawarma, hummus, dressing, iceberg lettuce, corn, cucumber, tomato, onion and red cabbage. For around 72 kr. for a homemade pita and around 77 kr. for a durum, you definitely get a filling portion.
When it comes to the taste, the experience is more mixed. There is plenty of meat, but the quality is not impressive. The meat seems a bit tough and lacks the deep seasoning and flavor that you hope for in a good shawarma. It's not bad, but it's also not great. The chili sauce was mild and didn't give it the strength or character you'd want. It was more like a lightly spiced tomato-based sauce.
It's easy to see why this place is popular with many. You get a lot of food for your money, the portions are large, and the prices are reasonable. On the other hand, I don't quite understand the hype surrounding the place. For me, a good shawarma is not just about quantity, but also about quality, taste, and ingredients.
Personally, I prefer Shawafel, where I experience better quality meat, more exciting ingredients like tabbouleh, babaganoush, and tzatziki, and a more relaxed experience where you can sit down and eat.
Overall, my rating is 3 out of 5 stars. If you prioritize large portions and good value for money, Zeynos is definitely worth a visit. On the other hand, if you're looking for the best taste and highest quality, there are better alternatives in my opinion
