The scent of baking dough curled through the air, warm and familiar, though we were thousands of miles from home. The pizza arrived fresh, its crust crisp at the edges, soft in the center, as if balancing two worlds at once. The lasagna, though prepared in advance, held a quiet confidence—layers of rich, steady flavor that didn’t need to prove themselves. The kebab sandwich, wrapped in its own secret logic, unfolded bite by bite, surprising but inevitable. Then came Faxe Kondi. Bubbles rising, light but insistent. It tasted like Sprite in a parallel universe—similar, but undeniably better. A small discovery in a new country, like finding a forgotten coin in your pocket. The host moved with practiced ease, arranging a space where there was none. A single table, just enough. The kind of hospitality that expects nothing in return. And the price—surprisingly gentle for Europe, almost as if it, too, understood that we had come from far away.
