The "White Lady" of Königsøren Søren Kiss: Hotel d'Angleterre, Copenhagen
If you're looking for the ultimate in luxury, legend, and elegance in Copenhagen, there's only one answer: Hotel d'Angleterre.
This top-tier five-star luxury hotel, affectionately known locally as "The White Lady," is located next to the Magasin du Nord department store on Königsøren Kiss. It's not just a hotel; it's one of the oldest luxury hotels in Europe, silently witnessing Denmark's historical changes for over two centuries and hosting countless royalty, dignitaries, and international celebrities.
👑 A Century-Old Legend Beginning with Romantic Love
Interestingly, the origins of this magnificent luxury hotel lie in a simple yet romantic love story.
In 1755, Jean Marchal, a French servant who came to Denmark with a theatrical troupe, fell in love with Maria Coppy, the daughter of the Danish royal chef. Maria inherited her father's exquisite culinary skills, while Jean was adept at serving the upper class. Combining their talents, the two opened a restaurant in Copenhagen. This fine dining establishment became immensely popular, subsequently relocating and expanding several times. In 1787, due to its reception of the local "English Club," it was officially renamed Hotel d'Angleterre (meaning "English Hotel") in French.
Although the hotel was destroyed in the Great Fire of Copenhagen in 1795, it was subsequently rebuilt at its current location (King's Neue Square). This magnificent white building, a blend of eclectic and Victorian styles, has since become one of Copenhagen's most prominent landmarks.
🎨 When Classical Victoria Meets Contemporary Nordic Minimalism
After several renovations, the Hotel d'Angleterre underwent the most extensive and ambitious transformation in Danish history between 2011 and 2013.
This renovation, handled by a top-tier design team, successfully infused contemporary Nordic elegance and sophistication into the grand, classic Victorian architecture. The hotel features only about 90 rooms and suites (including the renowned Royal Suite), each individually designed with luxurious fabrics, a curated art collection, and a full suite of modern smart amenities. Light, soft color palettes lend the space a noble yet light feel, perfectly embodying "understated luxury."

Overall, it was a wonderful hotel.
The room was clean and easy to use, and the amenities and supplies were excellent. The interior design was also lovely. The breakfast had high-quality ingredients, delicious coffee, and the option to order fresh egg dishes was available. The service quality was very high.
All the staff were smiling, pleasant, and helpful.
However, on the day I went to the spa, perhaps due to bad timing, the shower rooms and other areas didn't seem to be constantly cleaned, which was disappointing.
Overall, it was a very good experience. I would like to stay there again.
