Klaptræet Helsingør

Our visit to this family-run restaurant in Denmark was an absolute delight from start to finish. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming — the kind of place where you immediately feel like part of the family. We started with their beautiful smørrebrød — traditional Danish open-faced sandwiches — each one an edible work of art. The ingredients were incredibly fresh, with layers of flavor from the pickled herring, shrimp, and savory meats, all perfectly balanced with crisp vegetables, citrus, and fresh herbs. The real highlight of the experience, though, was the personal touch. Our server (and part of the family!) shared their house-made schnapps, explaining how it’s crafted from local ingredients. Tasting it felt like being invited into a Danish tradition — smooth, flavorful, and full of character, just like the people who make it. It’s rare to find a place that combines authenticity, warmth, and incredible food so effortlessly. This restaurant truly captures the heart of Danish culture — a must-visit for anyone who loves good food and genuine connection.

My friends and I had a delicious Danish traditional lunch of open faced sandwiches at this cozy restaurant. We enjoyed local beer and a liqueur made by the family who owns the restaurant. The service was excellent and I’m glad we discovered this tucked away gem.

Going to a restaurant should be an experience, apart from the food. When Patrik is working, he is half the experience. 👌 Since he doesn't seem to be working anymore, Klaptraet is falling flat. Smørrebrød can be found in a lot of places in Helsingør. Next time we'll choose a different place if Patrik isn't back. 😑

It took a while for the food to arrive, but the open sandwiches were very good. Unfortunately, one dish was missed for one of our party, but our waiter handled it very respectfully and professionally. This allowed us to continue enjoying our stay. Nice atmosphere and good food!

Nice restaurant in a backyard, a little hard to find, have to pass another restaurant to get there. Large nice menu with lots of sandwiches to choose from.

We had a Deal for Fish and Chips The food was really good and just right for a lunch. Our Swedish waiter was very friendly and service-minded, he helped create a really good experience. We will definitely be back.

10/10 the friendliest and most hilarious dude I've met tended the bar. And the food is amazing as well if you care about that
