This was so good! We had a croissant, rhubarb pastry and an almond pastry. So crispy! I already regret not getting more. Always a bit skeptical when reviews are this good, but in this case they are all true. No pics because we eat it all!

Many have discussed where to find Denmark's best croissants. That discussion can be safely put to rest - the answer can be found in Svendborg. Here, tucked away a little way up a chicken ladder and into a small backyard, is not a fancy shop, but a real bakery. And most importantly: a baker who knows his craft. The croissants almost speak for themselves. At first glance, you can see the fine, crispy layers that almost call out to you. And if you - like me - can't wait and take a bite right away, you'll know right away: neither butter nor love has been spared here. If food critics competed to find the best in Denmark, I would go so far as to say that we don't just speak Denmark - but all of Northern Europe. If you're on Funen, no matter where, it's worth the trip. And while you're there, do yourself the favor of taking a rye bread and a sourdough bread home with you. The little baker in the little backyard in Svendborg might deserve a glass facade in front of Amalienborg, so that the people of Copenhagen could also enjoy it all. But then it probably wouldn't be quite the same.

When the bakery is called Det Hemmelige Bageri it is because the bakery and shop are hidden without any notable signage in a backyard of a parking lot. You don't just stumble upon the bread sale - the price for a solid rye bread that can last is 50 kr if it is freshly baked. You can also buy frozen bread at a reduced price. We have many regular customers who believe that Leanders Bageri is one of Svendborg's hidden gems! 😁
