Great authentic old school danish lunch experience. Loved the pickled herring and fried fish. Snaps was a killer.

What an absolutely wonderful experience. The interior, the food and the service is just amazing, no wonder it’s so highly rated among residents in Copenhagen. I’ve always wanted to go, but it’s always been difficult to find a table as it’s booked so far in advance. I signed up for a waiting list table for two people and was lucky enough to get it! The waiters are so knowledgeable, they have incredible recommendations and they’re super friendly and hospitable. We were taken good care of. As for food I started out with the Stegt Makrel with tomat hollandaise. That was my least favorite of the three smørrebrød that I ate, I regret not going for something more different from their extensive and wonderful menu. The mackerel was obviously great, but I think the tomato hollandaise was a bit too sharp for my liking, I took a risk on that one but I am glad I tried it. Then I moved on to Jomfruens Natmad which was great. Veal at the bottom topped with hønsesalat. Absolutely delicious, but also quite “standard”. I loved it more than the mackerel for sure, but wish I’d gone with something else. Lastly I had the rejer hollandaise which was definitely my absolute favorite! Lemony, complex and with a nice mix of textures from the toasted bread all the way to the poached egg. Absolutely wonderful. In between the dishes we had plenty of “overfladespænding” snaps, as well as plenty of beer. We left quite drunk as well as full. My favorite smørrebrød in the city so far. I’ve tried quite a few places but Schønnemanns left me wanting to come back and try their whole menu. Wonderful experience.

We came to try the famous danish open-faced sandwiches and really enjoyed the experience!! We tried some with herring, beef tartare, local fish, cheese. The four of them were simply delicious!! Very fresh ingredients, high quality. Highly recommended place.

Shonnemann serms a historic place, half floor below the street level, old, with clean whete table cloth, a vaste menu of Danis open sandwiches, great cold eine and beer by the glass. My best recommendation is “salmon with Hollandaise”

That’s really a one proper real Danish experience! I had a very unusual dish. Fried Eel with scrambled eggs on rye! Well, it was excellent! The atmosphere feels very traditional. The restaurant is packed! Make sure to reserve in advance! Highly recommended!

Friends and guides alike told us to try this open-faced-sandwich institution in Copenhagen. We didn’t quite know what to expect but were not disappointed and left full and satisfied. I enjoyed the warm smoked salmon and the eel sandwich. The wheat beer, a typical accompaniment for locals was refreshing. You owe it to yourself to try this very Danish meal with its long history (read about it in the menu). Be sure to make reservations ahead of time.
