Restaurant California at Lodsgade 4 in Frederikshavn offers an authentic and satisfying burger experience that I highly recommend. I visited while in Skagen for the day and was drawn to the cozy ambiance and welcoming atmosphere.
I ordered the Texas Burger, which came with a warm bun, a 200g beef patty, salsa, jalapenos, cheddar cheese, lettuce, onions, pickles, and homemade dressing, all served with crispy fries. The flavors were bold, with the jalapenos adding just the right amount of spice, and the homemade dressing tying everything together perfectly.
My wife chose the Hollywood Burger, featuring the same delicious 200g beef patty, topped with sautéed mushrooms, onion rings, cheddar cheese, lettuce, onions, pickles, and the house-made dressing, also accompanied by fries. She loved the richness of the mushrooms and onion rings, which gave the burger a unique, hearty flavor.
For our daughter, the Children’s Burger was a hit. A simple, well-sized burger served with fries, it was the perfect portion for her.
Restaurant California not only delivered on flavor but also on service. The staff was attentive and friendly, adding to the overall enjoyable experience. If you’re in Frederikshavn, it’s a great spot to relax and indulge in a delicious meal.

12/10/2024: We came here for a casual dinner on our first night. We ordered a variety of tacos, grande tacos and quesadillas between the two of us. I also went crazy for the ancho salsa which was marked as the hottest but don’t let this put you off, it wasn’t too hot but was so so tasty. It’s largely self service but the waitress could tell we were a little worse for where after our flight and went out of her way to help us out.
Everything was really tasty and made to order, I have no complaints whatsoever.

29/10/2024: Sorry was too good to even stop to take a picture. All I can say is, get yourself a vanilla soft ice, with the hot chocolate candy shell and grab a seat. What an amazing experience!

03/10/2024: Amazing, taste like it’s straight from a Mexican house hold. All of the staff are very friendly, the atmosphere of the restaurant is very cool full of poster paintings and Mexican music playing . 😋
24/09/2024: Something has happened to the quality of the food after the change of owner and not for the better. However, they still make some sensible food that you can pay for when you don't feel like it yourself. To call it Mexican is perhaps an exaggeration, Mexican-inspired is probably more correct.

The rice only tasted of salt and the meat you couldn't taste or distinguish between (chicken and beef) because it just tasted strong - I'm not sensitive to strong food. It was thrown away as it was too salty to eat.
Will not buy from here again.
06/09/2024: Oh I so wanted to give more. Was with you at the old address where I had a fantastic AUTHENTIC Mexican food experience.
I was looking forward to coming again.
But.... The disappointment was great when I was served something that was far more Tex Mex than the authentic Mexican food I know from my years on the border between Mexico and Texas.
After the first visit, I couldn't put my arms down at all.
After the second visit, it was unfortunately difficult to get them up.

15/10/2024: We are from Mexico and wanted to tried tacos in Denmark. The pastor tasted really good, the asada tacos also had a good taste but the meat was very chewy. The hibiscus water was delicious and so were the salsas!

Only kind of negative to this place is it can get busy rather quickly
08/11/2024: Love the atmosphere and food choices there. First day we had a soup duck ramen and some bao which were very yummy. Went back another time for their steak frites. Price is reasonable consider the high cost of dining in Copenhagen.
