05/01/2025: A Hereford Beefstouw , Copenhagen
After a long day exploring Copenhagen on our last night, we decided to treat ourselves to a meal at A Hereford Beefstouw, a steakhouse located by Tivoli Market. Arriving around 5 pm, we were starving and ready for what we thought would be a high-end dining experience.
The ambiance didn’t quite scream “luxury,” with no noticeable dress code, and the service felt rushed. The waitstaff seemed overwhelmed, and we were warned it might take 10–15 minutes just to order drinks.
We settled on the house red wine (315 kr / £35), as the rest of the wine list started at £70+. The wine was fine but nothing special.
Starters:
• I had the beef tartar (95 kr / £10.50), a delicious blend of flavors with egg yolk, tarragon mayo, beetroot, and cress. Highly recommend this dish!
• My dad chose the lobster bisque (125 kr / £14), served with scallop, pickled apples, and fried capers. He also enjoyed it.
Mains:
We all opted for steak, the highlight of the meal.
• The sirloin steak (250g) (225 kr / £25) was cooked perfectly across the board.
• My dad’s ribeye (275g) (295 kr / £32), while tasty and well-cooked, was disappointingly small for the price.
Sides & Sauces:
Sides are ordered separately, and this is where things went downhill.
• My potatoes with chestnuts (45 kr / £5) arrived cold, while the fries my parents and Tim ordered were warm and crispy.
• The roast carrots with rosemary and yogurt (45 kr / £5) were flavorful but freezing cold, as if they’d been sitting out too long.
• The extra sauce - garlic butter (25 kr / £2.75), which was divine.
Overall:
While the steaks and starters were excellent, the service was slow, the sides were a letdown, and the prices felt unjustified for the overall experience. We couldn’t help but think about how much better value we could get at restaurants back home in the UK.
That said, Copenhagen is known for being an expensive city, and this restaurant certainly reflects that. If you’re craving steak in the heart of the city, it’s a good option, but don’t expect perfection or exceptional value for money.
30/12/2024: We‘ve had delicious food. Very tasty. From starters like tuna and smoked salmon via the main course steak wirth truffle fries and the dessert. Tasty. Nice staff.
