08/04/2026: An authentic Danish breakfast with excellent "smørrebrød", local "snaps" and a good selection of beer. The service is impeccable and the location in it it self, reminds of an old danish taverna. Love this place, and well worth a visit!

13/02/2026: Cozy open-faced sandwich restaurant, where you can feel transported to a bygone era at the small tables with red-checkered tablecloths and where the charming effects from the old distillery help to heighten the atmosphere. If the weather is good, outdoor dining is also possible. Here you can enjoy a piece of traditional Danish open-faced sandwich with a twist, of course accompanied by a mug of well-brewed beer and a dram or a glass of wine, if you're more into that. For a light hunger, a single piece of open-faced sandwich is plenty, the hard part is choosing. The pieces are large and the presentation inviting, after two pieces I couldn't eat any more despite having a very good appetite. The piece with crayfish tails is so far my favorite, fresh and delicious and nothing was spared. It won't be the last time I eat there.

22/01/2026: I don't know what to say, but 100% worth the money, Thor and his colleagues managed to make our Anniversary unforgettable, we told them we had an anniversary boom, 0.5 seconds later there is a flag, we have to go to the toilet boom, then our napkins are folded and the chair is pushed in, and all this is without talking about the food, wow 15 taste experiences, each of which was unforgettable. 22/04/2026: Esaan A Thay was a bit of a surprise to me, because even though Google lists it as a restaurant, it really felt much more like a takeaway place that happens to have a few seats. The seating was basically just a counter with some chairs, so if you go there expecting a proper sit-down restaurant atmosphere, that is probably the wrong expectation. It is more the kind of place where the food matters a lot more than the setting. That said, the food itself was the part that really saved it and honestly made a strong impression on me. I ordered number 5, the green curry with rice, and chose medium heat. For me, that was exactly the right choice. The spice level was very well balanced. It had actual heat, but it did not overpower the dish, and it did not feel weak either. It landed in that middle ground where it tastes like it should: enough kick to remind you it is a curry, but still balanced enough that you can taste the coconut milk, the vegetables, and the meat instead of just feeling your mouth burn. The green curry itself tasted like what I would expect a proper green curry to taste like. It felt closer to real Thai food than the usual watered-down version you often get at more generic Asian places. The sauce looked rich, creamy, and fresh, and from the dish itself you could clearly see proper pieces of vegetables and meat rather than just something thrown together without care. The bamboo shoots, peppers, carrots, and the overall look of the curry gave it a much more genuine impression. The fact that there was a real Thai cook there also gave me more confidence, and in this case the taste backed that up. Price-wise, I think the food was fair. 125 kr for the dish is not cheap, but for what I got, I think it was acceptable, especially when the food actually tastes proper and not like a half-hearted shortcut version. The part I did not like was the drink price. 29 kr for a 33 cl can is honestly pretty crazy. That is the one part where I think they pushed it too far. The food price I can live with. The soda price felt hard to justify. So overall, my impression is that Esaan A Thay is worth it if your focus is the food and not the dining experience. If you want a cozy restaurant with proper seating and atmosphere, this is probably not the place. But if you want a green curry that actually tastes like a real green curry, with a heat level that feels properly judged and not dumbed down, then it does the job well. For me, the biggest strength was easily the food, and the biggest weaknesses were the seating and the overpriced drink. If I had to sum it up simply: not much of a restaurant in the classic sense, more of a takeaway with a few seats, but the green curry was very good, the medium spice was spot on, and the food felt much more authentic than the setting did.

21/12/2025: Disappointing experience on 12/20 at 5:30 PM (they didn't close until 7 PM) My husband, our son and I have been Christmas shopping and then decide to end the day by going in and getting mulled wine and apple slices at Penny Lane on Boulevarden. When we enter we are greeted by sweet and smiling staff. We are directed to a table and we place an order. My son gets a raspberry slice and a hot cocoa. My husband and I get our mulled wine. We sit patiently and when 15 minutes have passed I ask if our apple slices are on their way soon. - they are not homemade apple slices so that is not what is causing the wait. The girl at the counter says that they are on their way. Another 5 minutes pass and we are seated so that we can look directly into their kitchen where the food is being prepared. We can't see a shadow of the apple slices there. There is a good atmosphere among the staff, they laugh, eat bread and actually seem quite indifferent to us and that we have been waiting so long. There were a maximum of 10-15 customers in the store and four at work, so it was not because of busyness. I go up again and approach the staff, and only then does she come in more directly and ask where our apple slices are going. They have apparently forgotten a timer on the oven so they were burnt, I was told. Only then do they get the freezer bag with apple slices and heat them up. I ask for two new mulled wine as these have become cold, which we also get - we had hardly drunk the ones we returned. At 6:10 pm what we have ordered finally arrives, but what was supposed to be pleasant actually ended up with us being irritated and frustrated and actually just wanting to leave. The young man who took our order said he was sorry for the wait. We left, and there was no goodbye or anything like that. I have had a shop in Aalborg for more than 13 years, and I generally don't like people reporting via such platforms as it can unjustifiably harm a company, but I'm fine with this. I was in the café as late as the day before Friday morning eating breakfast with a friend. We do this often. There has been nothing to complain about. However, we have agreed that we will take a break from Penny Lane for the time being.

Despite the name being older than the current menu, Byens Grill Kylling serves freshly grilled shawarma and kebab made with excellent ingredients sourced locally, including fresh produce from the nearby QB market. You can taste the difference immediately—everything feels fresh, well-prepared, and made with pride. The menu is intentionally small, with around 10 dishes, and that focus really shows. Every order hits the spot. No unnecessary overload, no shortcuts—just good food done properly. The owner deserves special mention. He is genuinely kind, welcoming, and communicates clearly. You feel seen as a customer, not rushed or ignored. He makes sure you’re properly fed and happy with your order, which is sadly becoming rare these days. And the portion sizes? Absolutely ridiculous—in the best way possible. You will not leave hungry. In fact, you’ll probably struggle to finish it, but you’ll enjoy every bite. The place itself is small and modest, but that only adds to the charm. It feels authentic, clean, and honest—focused on what actually matters: great food and good people. If you’re looking for high-quality shawarma or kebab, made fresh with care, this is easily one of the best spots in town. A local gem that deserves support and repeat visits. Highly recommended.
