19/10/2026: ⭐⭐ 2/5 – A Butter Chicken with room for improvement I ordered a Butter Chicken from Dehra – The Pakistani Food House, which I had been looking forward to trying. Unfortunately, the dish did not quite live up to my expectations. Let’s start with the sauce. The color was actually quite nice, but the consistency was very thin and watery. The taste reminded me more of a mild paprika stew than a classic Butter Chicken. I missed the richness, creaminess and warm spices that usually characterize the dish. The chicken was cut into relatively large pieces and did not seem to have been seasoned or marinated much beforehand. It lacked a little character and the delicious, lightly roasted surface that can make a big difference to the taste experience. A small suggestion for improvement: I would start by marinating the chicken in yogurt and spices and then grilling it, so that it gets more flavor and juiciness. The sauce could be made creamier with butter, cream and ripe tomatoes, where the natural acidity of the tomatoes is balanced with a little sugar or honey. Spices like garam masala, cumin, cardamom and cinnamon could provide the warmth, depth and rounded taste that I missed. In my opinion, a good Butter Chicken should have a silky, rich sauce, where both the chicken and the spices come into their own. All in all, the experience lands at 2 out of 5 stars. It was definitely not the Butter Chicken I had hoped for, but I also think there is room for improvement. With a little more focus on marinating, seasoning and the consistency of the sauce, the dish could be lifted significantly.
