02/07/2025: I visited Sofie’s Kalderen with my elderly parents (in their 70s) and my 11-year-old niece. Despite multiple empty tables on the terrace, we were told they were "fully booked for dinner" and we wanted to only have a drink. We obliged, but after sitting nearby for over an hour, not a single person was seated for dinner—just more drinkers like us. It’s baffling why we were turned away when the tables remained unused. Were we not the "right kind" of customers? The excuse felt dishonest. Tourists be warned—you might be turned away for no good reason, even when the place is half-empty. Update: Thank you, but there’s no need to lecture me on basic economics — I do understand how restaurants operate. My concern wasn’t about your business model, but rather about why we weren’t offered a table while several other guests, who also didn’t appear to be eating anything, were seated. Perhaps they miscommunicated their intentions, or maybe they chose to have drinks for an hour before ordering more. I’ll leave it to other customers to draw their own conclusions.

08/07/2025: The coziest restaurant and bar in Esbjerg. Their cozy seating area on the square contributes to a cozy atmosphere and makes for a good conversation. Very good service and always a good atmosphere There is often live music too

03/07/2025: The cappuccino was lukewarm, waitress had not listened well to what was ordered. She later apologized. But my husband was already eating which turned out to be half cold. And after about 10 minutes later my burger was brought which was also not warm.

05/07/2025: A slightly mixed experience at Guldkroen I've visited Guldkroen for lunch a few times, and the location is definitely appealing. The inn is centrally located and has a lovely terrace with a view of the Little Belt, which is a big plus, especially on a sunny day. Remember to book a table in advance, because it's usually completely full for lunch. This time was no exception — there were many guests, and the atmosphere was lively. The service was actually quite good, considering how busy it was. The three waiters ran fast, but maintained a polite level and managed who was waiting for what. Unfortunately, it was especially the waiting time and the food itself that let the experience down. It took almost an hour before our food arrived on the table, and it felt like the kitchen was under tremendous pressure. I had chosen a fish platter for 190 kr., which sounded promising on the menu, but disappointed in reality. The herring was nice, but the rest felt a bit small and uninspired: a halved fish fillet that just covered the bread, and a piece of smoked eel that barely did. The taste was okay, but the dish seemed tacky and definitely not worth the money. All in all, I'm left with a slightly lukewarm feeling. Guldkroen certainly has potential with its location and cozy inn atmosphere, but the cuisine and price level don't match the quality of the plate — and the wait doesn't make it any better. My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆ – 3 out of 5. Nice place to sit, nice service, but a long wait and a disappointing fish platter drag down the overall impression.

07/07/2025: Great place to have a beer. The selection is interesting and extensive with frequent changes. There are almost always a lot of people with full tables outside when the weather is good.

Skrattretande att det står på menyn att dom applicerar 50% rabatt för barn under 12 år men sen ville dom se legitimation på barnen (detta borde också stått som information på menyn). Vilket barn under 12 år har legitimation??🤣. Känns som ett dåligt sätt att locka till sig gäster. Några i sällskapet beställde blåmusslor med pommes till varmrätt och servitrisen tog emot beställningen men kom senare och sa att det inte fanns några kvar, då va det redan för sent att byta restaurang eftersom allt annat redan va beställt. Medioker mat för övrigt med överpriser.

06/07/2025: Lovely location right next to the Slotsholm Canal - Especially in the summer months it must be a wonderful place to stay. Large and reasonably cozy bar and bar area with room for many people and in the summer many more. No serving or service at the tables, everything is self-service, including the food that is picked up from the food truck outside: We ordered Fish and Chips which consisted of two very small, very thin and very dry pieces of fish, just enough for four bites, most of which were breadcrumbs, plus fries and a cup containing a small dollop of chilli mayo just enough for 15 fries, DKK 165. It is a complete mystery to me that the kitchen and owner would even put a name to something like that, it shows zero respect for the profession and for the customers with such a dish. It turns out to be a total of 2 stars as a whole for the place and this experience.

05/07/2025: We had fish'n chips and tiramisu. Both were super delicious. The fish was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, just like it should be. Delicious side dishes. The tiramisu was creamy and full of flavor - and plentiful 😋 The service was welcoming, attentive and pleasant. And you get a lot for your money, I think. Would love to come back.

29/06/2025: Lovely rural place, atmosphere and the food tasted good. Well-prepared and fresh ingredients. There were two of us who had lunch and ordered respectively. a potato dish to share, once a shrimp dish with poached egg on sieved bread and once salmon on rye bread spread with chive cream cheese on a bed of prepared beetroot. Topped with dill mayo and beetroot sprouts. Lovely food and a nice portion, so we were well full. Cold beer too.
