18/02/2026: I hardly know where to begin. The little bakery is almost like a secret, discreetly embedded in the fabric of the city. You don't find it by chance; you seek it out - or rather, you deserve it. But when the door finally opens and you step over the threshold, you understand that it was worth the effort. Here, not only bread and cakes await, but an experience that rises above the ordinary and is inscribed in the memory. Are you among those who willingly stand in line for half an hour in front of a self-conscious, over-hyped Østerbro bakery to acquire a photogenic Shrove Tuesday bun - meticulously staged, diligently documented and shared, before half is discreetly discarded because the enjoyment was not worth the calories? Then you should look elsewhere. At Max, there is no coffee cart ceremonially patrolling along an endless queue. There is no queue. Instead, you are greeted by something far rarer: an aura. A scent-filled, almost sacred atmosphere, where the air is heavy with warmth, butter and living sourdough. The room can barely accommodate two seated guests, placed on cushions that seem borrowed from a grandmother's summer house – makeshift, unpretentious, completely authentic. No baked goods are produced here. Craftsmanship is practiced here. The sourdough bread is in a league of its own. The crust is deep and resonant, with the characteristic crispness that resonates in the room when the knife breaks through. The crumb is elastic, aromatic and complex – and the miracle continues the next day, when the bread still possesses juice and soul. It is baking at its most uncompromising. The viennese bread – and it is almost an understatement to call it that – is a study in balance. The layers are delicately laminated, the butter speaks with a clear and authoritative voice, and the texture is both crispy and melting at the same time. Nothing has been spared here, but nothing has been exaggerated either. No vulgar fat, no intrusive sweetness. Margarine has never found its way into this workshop, and its absence is felt immediately. At Max von Haps, you can feel an uncompromising dedication to the creation. Every single piece of baked goods appears as a conscious work – not a product of routine, but of ambition. Effort, time and pride have been put into every fold, every rise, every baking. Max, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for reminding us that real baked goods don’t need hype – only hands, fire and integrity

18/06/2026: Beautiful view and lovely landscape. Very friendly service. It was definitely worth the visit. Coffee was good. The hot food, and pastry (carrot cake) however, didn’t feel fresh at all. And the price charged was higher than in the online menu :). Below butter chicken picture.

10/03/2026: I stopped by as a tourist. The decor was very original and tasteful, and the pastries were really delicious. The service was also very friendly. I'd gladly come again.

15/12/2025: Such a cozy and inviting bar. The staff are genuinely friendly, the beer selection on tap is excellent, and the atmosphere is warm and relaxed. I stopped by solo and felt completely comfortable a great place to sit, enjoy a beer, and slow down.

02/12/2025: Nice beer bar, too bad they mostly only serve their own rather mediocre Flying Couch beers and rarely change them. Pretty good place for a good date, though ☺️

05/04/2026: Really bad food experience :(. The chicken in the dishes is completely red inside and the consistency is really weird. Called to tell me and was told it couldn't fit. Their chicken is good. And it can't be discolored, we were told. Bad food and bad service. P.S.

08/07/2026: Was one of the best dinners I have ever had! The menu was perfect (even for a picky eater) and the service was very smooth and nice :) Had tons of fun and enjoyed our evening in cleo so much! The giant oyster mushrooms were 100/10

05/07/2026: Cleo follows all the tropes of a neighborhood eatery—a relaxed, easy-breezy approach to nab an unassuming, diasporic, sashaying, sybaritic gastronome that happens to be within its vicinity. Attainable produce is given modernity. Adages of selected cocktails, natural and biodynamic wine correlate with a menu that offers robust crowd-pleasers that are put through the flavour mill, becoming all killer no filler. Packing a punch, yet simultaneously exercising restraint; a contingency to be sequential, not to shirk from a canonical ability to strive for deliciousness. Outside on communal tables, cheek by jowl with your fellow chowhounds. Achiote, ’nduja, miso, jalapeño, and sesame are endemic accompaniments to a menu that satisfies both those who wish to share and those who don’t.

25/05/2026: Lovely food that tastes fantastic and looks great. Friendly service and you can both see and taste that the chefs are passionate about their work. Didn't expect to find such a gem on Gammel Køge Landevej. There is a good selection of pizzas and a smaller selection of Italian pasta dishes. I highly recommend a visit.

28/06/2026: Really kind service and the Kojo smoothie was delicious. I could taste every ingredient and they all went very well together, plus it was very smooth and filling.

27/06/2026: I honestly expected a completely different experience. When you visit the place where Hansen Is is produced, you naturally think that you will get an experience that is at least as good – or maybe even better – than at the local retailers. Unfortunately, it was the exact opposite. I had two children with me, who each ordered a cup with two scoops, while I ordered a soft ice cream. The cups were far from full and contained surprisingly little ice cream. Compared to Jægerspris Ishus, where the cups are filled properly, it was a big disappointment. The soft ice cream was also not impressive. I could only choose between a small or a large, so I chose a large. Still, it was smaller than the medium size I usually get at Jægerspris Ishus – at a higher price. Unfortunately, the ice cream itself was also very anonymous in taste. It lacked body, character and the creamy experience you expect from a quality ice cream. The same applied to the topping, which seemed boring and without anything special. The whole experience reminded me more of the very ordinary ice cream you could get in Eastern Europe many years ago – not of a visit to one of Denmark’s most famous ice cream producers. All in all, it was a very disappointing experience. I had expected better quality, larger portions and an experience that would justify the trip. Next time I will drive the few minutes to Jægerspris Ishus instead, where I think I get more ice cream, better taste and much more value for money.
