04/11/2026: Kong Hans Kælder is not just a restaurant, it is almost an experience in itself! 🍷 As soon as you enter the old cellar, you can feel the very special atmosphere. The beautiful vaults and the dim lighting really add to the experience. It is fascinating how a place can feel so exclusive and at the same time have so much history. The food is of course on the expensive side, but it is also a place where you expect something out of the ordinary. I especially like the idea that each serving is a small experience, where both taste and presentation play a role. It is definitely not a place you just pop in for a quick dinner. Here it is about taking your time, enjoying the company and making a little extra out of the evening. 😊

27/10/2026: I rarely leave one-star reviews, especially for a restaurant I had looked forward to visiting for such a long time, but both my experience here and the way my complaint was subsequently handled were deeply disappointing. During my dinner, a large fly repeatedly circled my table and eventually landed on my bread. I brought it to the attention of a server, but nothing was done until I specifically asked for the bread to be replaced. When I raised the concern again, I was simply told that the restaurant is an open space and there was nothing they could do about it. I also had little to no mobile reception inside the restaurant and no Wi-Fi access, which made it difficult as an international guest and non-native English speaker to look up unfamiliar ingredients and culinary terminology on such a sophisticated tasting menu. After returning home, I sent the restaurant a detailed email explaining my concerns. That email received no acknowledgment or response. Only after I followed up did I finally hear back. The explanation for the delay was that the restaurant had been exceptionally busy and that the manager responding to me had been unwell. I found this surprising. Does a serious guest complaint depend on one specific manager being available? If the feedback was genuinely considered important, I would have expected someone else to acknowledge or handle it in that person’s absence. More disappointing was the substance of the response. Regarding the fly, they explained that an occasional insect entering the restaurant cannot always be prevented. Regarding the connectivity issue, they explained that the restaurant’s 300-year-old historic cellar and exceptionally thick, protected walls create challenges for both mobile reception and wireless connectivity. Rather than offering concrete solutions, both explanations seemed to ask the guest to accept these shortcomings as unavoidable. They also declined my request for compensation after “carefully considering the circumstances,” while offering no meaningful resolution beyond the possibility of helping arrange another visit someday. I had already specifically explained that I do not expect to return to Denmark anytime soon. Perhaps living in the US has shaped my expectations of customer service, but I found this approach difficult to understand. The overall response felt less focused on taking accountability or finding solutions and more focused on explaining why the circumstances could not be helped and why the guest should accept them. For a two-Michelin-starred restaurant at this price point, I expected much better hospitality and accountability. The food itself showed care, including thoughtful accommodation of my dietary restrictions, but hospitality is part of the experience too. More importantly, food hygiene and safety are fundamental expectations in any restaurant today, regardless of Michelin status. I was genuinely surprised to have an experience like this at a restaurant of this caliber, and even more surprised by how casually my concern was initially handled. If you are choosing among Copenhagen’s Michelin-starred restaurants for a special occasion, choose carefully. I traveled from the US and had anticipated this dinner for a long time. Unfortunately, what should have been one of the highlights of my trip became one of its most disappointing memories.

26/09/2026: If you are looking for a really delicious pizza and a sandwich which we got 30 min. before they closed.. the food is insanely delicious and tastes like you are sitting in Italy.. service was top notch from the sweet staff

22/10/2026: Denmark's best fried herring. A spontaneous visit turned into an absolutely fantastic taste experience. Homemade fried herring with capers, grated horseradish and beetroot. It just went together. The herring was completely different compared to fried herring elsewhere. Can't be described, but must be tried. Marinated herring with bite in it was absolutely perfect. The Bette Kro really has a good handle on herring.

20/10/2026: Food is mixed, the mains with noodles and soup are tasty. The summer rolls are also great, however the dumplings and spring rolls are very average. Unfortunately the service and atmosphere ruined the whole experience. Booked a table for 7 but given 2 tables and weren’t allowed to move them together. Waitress wouldn’t speak English either. She seemed rushed and annoyed as we tried to order. Finally when paying the bill, she pushed a few buttons quickly before we had a chance to react - the receipt showed us she gave herself a tip of 60kr and selected the currency to pay in which as a customer we should be choosing ourselves. When service is this bad I would advise to skip this place.
